here is what some folks are saying [with links to full reviews], including the positive and, well, not so positive. both are important, welcomed and, honestly, unavoidable. rather like life, really.

most of all, though, i offer my sincere thanks to each of these people. giving any attention to a self-published work is extremely appreciated.

as always, i’d love to hear what anyone else thinks, too. feel free to post your comments here on the blog (and thanks!). as a point of self-promotion, of course, i’ll point out that amazon.com is simply an undeniable forum for references and for getting the word out, so if you feel so inclined, i’d be grateful for any posts there, as well.

“Heroic stories aren’t supposed to be like this. And that’s the crux, and the very wonderful thing, about this book…Humor in vast, laugh-out-loud doses…a good beginning to what I hope will become a favorite collection for many readers.”

“One wrong move, and you’re suddenly charged with saving a world not your own…’Witness’ is exciting, original, and witty writing, sure to please fantasy fans.”

“… reworks the usual fantasy tropes into a sharp, funny culture clash…Blais sets his fish-out-of-water story against a rich imaginary landscape teeming with arresting creations…a promising new series.”

“Bill Blais is clearly genre-savvy and aware of the pitfalls here, and in Witness he attempts to skate around the trope’s failings and do it properly. The success of this is somewhat qualified, but it was by no means a bad read.”

“I have to admit that “Witness” wasn’t exactly on my liking, but I think that Bill Blais has the potential for improvement and for making his next novels better.”

I am just digging into the book now but, I found the fantasy curses to be a good touch, making it more your world that I am being emerged in. I can’t wait to read more.

    • glad to hear it! that kind of thing can be a bit of a fine line: too much and it sounds heavy-handed and fake, too little and it sounds either out of place or just like everything else. a lot of back and forth in the revisions about this kind of thing, for me. thanks for the positive feedback!
